My dad suffered in his long ending

later in depression mostly sat
slightly impatient with the children
at least still made jokes, read

three days before he was gone
I arrived at the hospital
and there he lies
in his death rattles
in my uncontrollable crying
in Uncle Kudu who comforts me
in a gasp after the last faint breath
in this is now time to die, dearest pappa
it is now

everything was covered in white
pappa, so thin

was switched off
