Daybreak Dance (Paintings with flowers)

the day breaks on poems
like the beauty of the sun through a crystal dome
illuminating a room
then it begins to sparkle
on flowers in full bloom

the day breaks at Welgemeend
where water ripples in a collection of art

the day breaks at Wellington
where a sculpture garden grows
lush in the light

the day breaks on poems like the beauty of sun

further and further at Wits and West Park when the morning comes
shining on the humble 1970 niche of a poet, not forgotten

then the yellow shine begins to sparkle
on an open-flowered bloom

it sparkles on bookshelves, broken roofs
people still sleeping in Ōṃ

it dances through the Cape Flats
where young poets are rising to greet it

the day breaks on poems like the beauty of sun

the dawn now dances a chanson on the beat of a cajón
it shines through a lace curtain and fills a room with light

then it begins to sparkle on an open-flowered bloom

verse-tired, I scribble: I'm so shocked by life
that's why I work on in lonely nights
my focus always on the new day

the day breaks on poems like the beauty of sun
then the yellow shine begins to sparkle
on an open-flowered

bloom
