I loved her … my Meg of the lochs and hills

the Scottish Highlands
her dear a’ Ghaidhealtachd
her creatures of the water
wind and air

I loved her when I sat weeping
by the river Coiltie

I loved her when I lay sleeping
in old Fidheallan agus Pìoban-mòra

I had to let her go
it wasn’t meant to be

but I loved her the more
travelling far away across the sea
when my heart broke
over my Meggy May
on a ship in the ocean
under the dark blue sky

I loved her the more
here where I'll die
but my Margaret Meg
I never again would see

Please!
if love is a sin

then forgive me
