When I had no work in 2020

but the cold white death passed me by
I enjoyed it alone, I did not get Covid

a part of the world was resting and sleeping
and I became quiet inside

I tried to keep safe and warm
and hoped that we'd be all right

many in this world was resting and watching
it was like holidays staying at home

but somewhere, some were dying
somewhere so many died

stone dead in the earth they lay, while
many was resting and dreaming

some in grief or in fear, knowing the end might be near
while some worked their asses off, the doctors, the nurses

as always, the teachers, the students
and the entrepreneurs

people can work so well, and that is always admirable
to save what can be saved, to always appreciate life

and somewhere, some still lived
in tranquillity despite the despair

a part of the world rested
a part of the world slept

oh, some resorted to singing, some to tears
in Venice, the lagoons were crystal clear

she said she saw a dolphin pass by
in a canal near the Partigiana at the tide

a rocking on the waves gondola
she said she saw it smile

while some in the world rested or slept
if they were not already

dead
