Soothing song for the summer

I live in an old green city
with colossal sculptures
and stately buildings dating
from eras of architecture
that would last long in beauty

you looked at me intently
your dark eyes rested
for a moment on my face

open your thoughts
you whispered
open yourself to me

let your drops stream
in waterfalls of sorrow

flow with the river
so that you
can remember

.
and now we are here
in this listening rich summer
of the silent voices
we still hear

and the voices of us
who are still
alive
