Provence

Provincia Romana

was wat die ou Romeine besluit het

langs die Mediterreense see

en as ek lê in ‘n hangmat

en die son suis die woorde:

Célébrez la joie de vivre !

oor my mond

dink ek hoe soms in die Rhône

die mistral erg kan waai

en oral skade saai

oor die rivier waarop vate wyn vervoer is

ook ander skatte in kreunende bote

en die rivier oorstroom

en ruïneer als langs sy oewers

plekke en plase ou kastele se murasies

van die koue Haute Provence en Basses-Alpes

tot by die Côte D’Azur

hou die Provensale van poësie in Frans

en eerder gesing as gelees of gedans

en so word twee misterieuse vorms

van skoonheid gekombineer

geskiedenis en legendes

in liefdesballades

en as ek lê in ‘n hangmat

en die son suis die woorde:

Vier die vreugde van die lewe!

oor my mond

dan sien ek perskebome en wingerde

en olywe in die suide

laventellanderye

en saffierblou waterlyne

dan hoor ek die huilende sipresse

van die noorde

om die mistral-winde af te keer

dan dink ek aan Gauloise-sigarette

en rooiwyn op terrasse

en jou by my vir altyd

jou begrip en jou verstand

maar dis jou sterk lyf

wat my laat brand

House Baldwin

Saint-Paul-de-Vence is geleë in die departement Alpes-Maritimes van die streek Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur in suidoos-Frankryk.

AI Overview

No, the original house where James Baldwin lived and worked in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France,
does not exist in its original form. It was largely demolished by property developers starting around 2014 and the site has been converted into a luxury apartment complex.
Key details regarding the fate of the house:
  • Demolition and Development: The villa, commonly known as Chez Baldwin on Chemin du Pilon, was torn down despite efforts by activists to save it. A developer built 19 luxury apartments, called "Le Jardin des Arts," on the property.
  • The Writing Room: While reports in 2016 indicated the core writing room was initially spared, by 2018 and 2019, it was reported that the vast majority of the structure was gone or transformed into the luxury development.
  • Current Status: The site is privately owned, closed to the public, and is now occupied by modern apartments with a pool and parking, rather than the historic home.
  • Legacy Preservation: Though the physical house was destroyed, various groups continue to fight for the preservation of the remaining site and the memory of Baldwin’s residency there.
For many years after his death in 1987, the house served as a major site of pilgrimage for visitors and artists, but the physical structure of that location has been lost.
Ja jinne, wou mos sê die plekkie lyk of dit enige oomblik uitmekaar uit kon val. Dis die lewe. Bouwerk word vernietig deur die natuur. Dit verval.
.
Yes, thinking that buildings turning into ruins is a manifestation of the law of entropy (the second law of thermodynamics) is scientifically sound and a common analogy for this concept. Entropy describes the natural tendency of any closed system to evolve from an ordered, high-energy state into a disordered, low-energy state (maximum stability/disorder).
.
Nature is not accurately described as simply "uninvolved" or "destructive." Instead, it is a complex, active system that operates on cycles of creation, destruction, and regeneration, often appearing indifferent to human concerns. While natural forces can be devastating, destruction is often a necessary component for ecological renewal and sustainability.
Here is a breakdown of the dual nature of nature:
  • Active and Dynamic (Not Uninvolved): Nature is not a passive bystander. It is a "round-the-clock service centre" providing essential services like clean air, water, and food. It is constantly acting and shifting, driven by forces like weather patterns, ecological interactions, and evolutionary processes.
  • Creative Destruction: Events that seem inherently destructive, such as floods and wildfires, are often essential for maintaining ecological balance, such as by replenishing soil nutrients or allowing for forest regeneration.
  • Destructive Potential: Nature possesses immense power, through hurricanes, tornadoes, and earthquakes, which can cause significant damage to human environments.
  • The Problem of Human Interaction: Much of the modern "destruction" often attributed to nature is actually driven by human activity, such as land-use change, pollution, and climate change, which increases the frequency of natural disasters.
Ultimately, nature is not inherently malicious, but rather operates according to its own rules, which can be both supportive of and hazardous to human life.
.
But nature is nature. That is what it is and can not think or plan or plot. We have what we have on earth and it is enough for me to have what I have. And my little holidays every year at Glen Afrique and Maya Spa in the berge.
Ha.
En vlierbessiekonfyt.
