It is now in the past

I still have a lot
I processed my pain
knowing, I alone, had to let go
of that horrible refrain

now that I was again
lifting my face each day to the sun
trying to create my own meaning every day
in this: my solitary life, to again look
at what I’ve gained

so strange this life
if we do not die of pain
are not consoled by mythology
but fulfilled with knowledge, intellect

there are still many things to enjoy
we always laugh again and again
because life is life
and life is beautiful
but life is also sad
and though time can heal old wounds
other wounds can't heal
we have to let go and walk away
focus on what we now have, because

life is life, and it has to be lived
despite everything that is not right
and even if we knew we would be blown
to smithereens tomorrow
that is no reason not to live
as happily and industriously
as we know how
today

“Do what we will, we are alone. The sooner we learn that the better, and the more we are fit to be alone with ourselves, the more we are respectful to the individuality of others, and therefore the more we are fit to associate with our kind.”
